"I'm fine. I just have a lot going on."

You’ve heard some version of this more than once, and part of you wants to believe it while another part isn’t so sure.

In a community where everyone’s pushing hard, it’s hard to tell the teens who are thriving from the ones who are anxious, depressed, or barely holding on.

Little setbacks start to feel huge, and keeping up at school, with friends, and with family is exhausting.

We help teens, young adults, and parents in Lake Oswego slow things down and build a healthier relationship with pressure, feelings, and self-worth.

Dr. Shannon Odell

Psychologist

“So many of the people we work with are used to functioning at a high level while struggling underneath. They're thoughtful, capable, and holding far more than anyone around them realizes."

Our work is grounded in strong clinical training and real human connection, and we believe good therapy should feel thoughtful, collaborative, and tuned in to the realities of modern family life.

Therapy in with us in Lake Oswego and online is thoughtful, conversational, and connected to the realities of daily life. We work well with teens and young adults who are experiencing all kinds of issues, and we specialize in working with stress, family dynamics, school pressure, or a hard decision.

Our approach is warm and engaged, and honest and direct when that’s what helps. I tend to work well with teens, young adults, parents, and athletes who are reflective or carrying a lot internally, even when they look “fine” on the outside.

A lot of people assume therapy is only for a full-blown crisis, but most of the families I see reach out long before things get there. It can help when stress, anxiety, conflict, a big transition, or the same patterns start wearing on everyday life, even when you’re technically still holding it together.

With kids and teens, that might look like more anxiety, irritability, or perfectionism, pulling away, school stress, or tension at home. For adults and parents, it’s often the sense that life has started to feel like too much to carry alone.

You don’t need to have it all figured out first. That’s what a free consult is for: a low-pressure conversation to see if we’re a good fit. We can meet in person in Lake Oswego or online across Oregon and Washington.

Yes. Many of the parents we see in Lake Oswego, Dunthorp, and West Linn are carrying an enormous amount behind the scenes: stress, guilt, anxiety, exhaustion, the constant sense they’re supposed to hold everything together. Therapy offers space to slow down, think clearly, and have an hour that’s simply theirs. We don’t believe struggling parents are failing parents; usually, they’re people caring for others while carrying too much themselves.

It depends on you, your goals, and how much you’re carrying right now. A lot of our clients (teens, young adults, and parents) start with weekly sessions, especially early on, because that steady rhythm helps us build trust, find some momentum, and get a clearer picture of what’s actually driving the pressure. Others begin every other week, whether that’s a better fit developmentally, easier on a packed schedule, or just where my availability lands.

Therapy with us isn’t meant to feel rigid or one-size-fits-all, so we’ll check in along the way and adjust to whatever feels most supportive and sustainable. Whether you’re coming in person here in Lake Oswego or meeting online from anywhere in Oregon or Washington, we’ll find a pace that works for your real life.

Yes, this is a big part of who we see both in person in Lake Oswego and online. Young adulthood is that messy in-between stretch from the teen years into your twenties (and honestly, sometimes right up to 30), and it can bring a lot of uncertainty, pressure, and change, even when things look like they’re going well.

A lot of the young adults we work with come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, burned out, or unsure who they are outside of grades, expectations, and everyone else’s needs. Others are wrestling with relationships, family stuff, figuring out their identity, navigating a big transition, or just the pressure to have it all figured out already.

Young adult therapy is a space to understand yourself better, build healthier patterns, and move through this stage with more clarity and steadiness. Our approach is thoughtful and engaged, grounded in what life actually looks like for young adults right now, not rigid ideas about what you “should” be doing.

Most parents genuinely want to help, but it’s hard to know how to show up for your teen or young adult without accidentally adding more pressure or starting another argument. And in a lot of families, stress quietly organizes itself around performing, staying productive, or just avoiding the hard feelings altogether.

Usually, it starts with slowing down. Leaning into connection. Giving your teen room to feel understood before they feel corrected or “fixed.” That’s often where things start to shift.

That’s also where I come in. My parent support sessions help families communicate better, ease some of the tension at home, and make sense of what’s fueling your teen’s distress, so you’re not left guessing or carrying it all on your own.
